The Church as a Mystical Body

The teaching of the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ is one that is held in high regards by the communion of saints. Pope Pius XII issued this teaching during World War II to illustrate that the Church is a living entity and that it is not fully spiritual or fully physical, but that it is supernatural. This contrasted the belief that the Church was a "perfect society."
